Huntington North - Between Storms
#1
I was planning to go up and fish Cleveland and Miller Flat Reservoirs today but the weather made me stay a little closer to home.

I didn't get over to HN until 11:30 and fished until it started to rain again, about 2:30. I fished from my kick boat using a medium sinking line (#3) and a size 6-8 bead head crystal bugger in brown/green/pearl and a soft hackle fly in the same color. I picked up a couple of small bass (6" - 12"), two wipers (18" - 19"), and a few rainbows that run between 12" and 15" long. The water temperature was 60 degrees and the visibility about 5'. The reservoir level is at 47% full and still dropping. The fishing was pretty slow but the best part was I never hooked any chubs.[Wink]

Thanks for the report, I was there Friday but off the bank on that old boat ramp, only caught 1 17" 18" rainbow, was interesting though bow had 6 chub minnows in its gut and a #2 rusty old hook in there too. I didn't think bows munched on minnows much but this one sure did.

Curious about the new ramp though, is it still usuable for power boats? any out with you? No launches while I was there, But I walked down to the end and kicked myself for not bringing my Porta Bote and just hand launching it.
There were a few boats in the campground (UEA) weekend, But nobody tried to launch,

Thanks

There were no boats out today but it looks like there is still enough ramp left to launch a power boat.

Way to go on the nice rainbow. I've taken some home from HN that were full of crawdads. The fish have a regular buffet there.[Wink]

Thanks for the reply, Don't really need the ramp for launching, the P.B. has wheels I can hand launch with no trailer. I did not take it due to UEA and figured the lake would be a nightmare of huge wakes, I guessed wrong.

After the monsoon has passed I will give it another shot I
know what you mean about the all you can eat menu there. Makes it challenging at times But its fun trying to figure the buggers out.

Great trip. Yes the res is full of food for the fish, but when they want to play, it's game on.[cool] I just wish I was closer to it.[:/] Thanks for sharing!
