Hyrum ???
#1
Has anyone tried Hyrum lately? Trying to decide between deer hunting and fishing. Last week I was too lazy to shoot a deer and drag it off the mountain. Okay they were just small buck and needed to grow up.
I should try for a catfish but getting tired of disappointment with the size lately. Thinking I should take my FIL before it gets cold and he loves catching trout, even if they are smaller. What's the chance of a crazy catching day? We usually have a great fall trip about this time of year, think we could hit 20 each or is it kind of slow there lately? Later J

I've been wondering the same thing. Been wanting to get my tube out and jig for perch and get some trout on my fly rod. I was there yesterday, not fishing, just did a drive by and stopped at the beach area to enjoy the view. Only saw one boat out. I always seem to have a couple of good days when the weather gets cooler on Hyrum.

It should be good they just planted it. I'm thinking of going next weekend. I still have a cow elk tag to fill.

If I go I'll post a report, even if its a slow trip.... I'm really divided on what to do, it is the last of the deer hunt, but I can't catch and release very well after I pull the trigger and that's a lot of summer sausage if I get one.. Don't know where to find a big one this year since I haven't been up scouting, so I should probably just go fishing, but I love to deer hunt..... So guess I'll have to see what the boss says tonight... Later J

Thanks Rod on the planting report, that probably means the little fellows will drive ya nuts.... and make it hard to catch any of the bigger ones... But if I'm looking for numbers that might be a good time to go... I need to switch my hooks to single points and barbless if we have a bunch of new planters... I really don't like those treble hooks much anymore, they are way too rough on the fish... Maybe I'll be over there the same time you go... Later J

Do you know how many they planted? It's been a slow Fall for me at all the local lakes...kinda disappointing compared to previous years.

Looks like the planted just over 7500 on the 12th. I'm looking for a few days to get on the lake with my tube with the 50 degree weather as I patiently wait for ice. But I agree, it's been a sorry year at the local ponds (for me anyway). Havent put forth much effort though either... so you get what you work for....

Fished Hyrum today from 7:30 TO 12:00. Caught mostly small 4-6" perch with the occasional planter rainbow. Water temp was 56 degrees. We fished jigs mostly tipped with crawlers. Launch conditions are still good for most boats.

Thank you so much for the report and update. I really hoped those perch would have put on some size for this ice season but they sound pretty small still. Maybe there will be some 10"ers through the ice.

Well time for my TIP of the day. If you're trying to decide between hunting and fishing on your day off don't let your wife know or you end up picking apples all day instead of either of the other choices. Fraid tomorrow doesn't look any better. So much for time off. J

I guess I've been putting things off too long need to get stuff done before the snow flies. Maybe I'll try a short cat trip in the morning. Later J

About 20,000 this month. Getting stocked for the ice season I guess.

Great fishing at Hyrum. Couldn't even set down the pole before a hit. Amazing evening! Very busy! Yeah you'll catch a little planter every once in awhile.
