Just moved to Utah From Ohio a few weeks ago and am wanting to try to catch some perch from my kayak next weekend. Can someone tell me how many feet of anchor line I might want to plan having fishing from The Rabbit Gulch area of Starvation.Having never been there I really don't know what to expect water depthwise.I am hoping to find some depths in the 10 to 20 ft range.Any insight on water depths or bait and rig suggestions would be appreciated.I also would be interested in meeting any other Kayak fisherman in the area if anyone is interested in me tagging along. Thanks in advance for any input.

Try using jigs tipped with a worm. They can't resist that. Depth wise depends upon the area or bunny gulch you're in.

There are plenty of areas in the 10 to 20 ft. range. Straight out from the campground/parking area you will find that type of depths. A friend was there last week end and did well in the depths you mentioned. As mentioned, small jigs tipped with crawler is a great place to start. You will have to experiment with colors.

[#0000ff]Welcome to our part of the fishing universe, Dave.
I was there a little over a week ago. The water levels are higher than normal for this time of year...as is the water temp. But after this last cooling spell it should be a bit cooler.
The best spot for perch last trip was straight across the channel from the rocky reef jutting out from the south side. There is a point where the channel goes back into a cove...and along the rocks of that point the perch were thick...and all along the edges of the channel toward the west end. Fish along the northern channel edges and watch your sonar. Look for the single buoy marking that corner. It is a good place to start.
I found fish from 10 to 20 feet deep last trip. With cooler water they may move a little deeper. But it is still too early for them to migrate down past about 25 feet. So a rope long enough to hold in a light breeze in that depth should suffice. That's the good thing about fishing from a tube instead of a yak. I can use fins to maintain position...hands free...without having to use an anchor.
Jigs and worms are standard...and will catch plenty of fish. I did better on the larger fish by using a piece of perch meat on my jigs. And they also hit jigs tipped with 1" Gulp Minnows...as they did with fishing 3" gulp minnows on a jighead.
We have several other yakkers on the board. I trust you will get some howdies from them.
Good luck.

[#0000FF]I'd be happy to join up with you on some of our local waters. I ain't too proud to fish with a yakker.
I am retired and prefer to fish mostly during the week. If you can do that too we can plan a trip or two. Otherwise, I may get a shot for my scruples and join you on a weekend. This time of year it is not as bad with the power squadron and the amateurs thin out during hunting season.
I was looking at a potential trip next Wednesday, depending on last minute weather details. Starvy is not a nice place to be in a small craft when Mama Nature gets huffy...and she does that a lot on Starvy.
If you will PM me with your email address I can send you a more complete writeup on overall fishing in Starvation...with areas, species, tackle and techniques, etc. It is about 55 pages and about 10 Mb of info. Can't send it by PM and don't want to post it on a public forum. Also, will be taking down the attachment to the writeup soon, so copy it if you are going to.

[#0000FF]I appreciate your appreciation.
Starvation has always been one of my fave venues. Too bad it is such a long drive. But if it wasn't then it probably wouldn't be as good fishing. Already much more power squadron congestion than in the past.
