ice fishing withdraw
#1
It's that time of year where I get the itch! Been watching videos on YouTube of ice fishing videos and get anxious to get back out there. I'm wondering how many of you are going through the same, and how you fish the hard deck. This year I plan on trying to land a muskie through the ice, with a few trips to strawberry and the gorge for other species. I can't wait for ice season. Probably hitting PV every other weekend since u can't go every weekend since I have a 3 month old son now but I can't wait, who's excited!

I am with ya man. Been going thru my gear. Getting the motorcycle put away and bring all the gear to the front of the shed so when the ice comes, all I gotta do is open the shed door and grab the rope of the ice sled and GO!!

Got my brother in law the Eskimo 6 man hut for like $315 last year and that roomy. I like my 3 man but never go with more than 2. I like going by myself time to time and spreading out. But that 6 man hut is amazing and one man can set it up very easily.

Count me in. My wife and I are avid ice'ers. I started the snowmobile a week ago to make sure it is ready. Hopefully in about 4 weeks the season begins. May even take in an out of state trip around thanksgiving up at Henry's Lake in Idaho.

Yea last year was a super short season. Hopefully we get a good few months of solid ice this year. Would be great to hit it every other weekend, use to every weekend but yea last year was a bad winter for ice fishing, unless ya drive up towards strawberry

Really? I like strawberry in the fact you can Cath 19 inch cutthroat all day, never got any over the slot but stay on the 19 size prett consistently, biggest I got was 21.5 lol. And fat rainbows. But I live in Layton and that's an expensive timely trip for me

I hate strawberry in the winter. Especially ice fishing. I only go there during warmer months and then not all that too often.

Forget the ice. I hope to fish Buckbord in January from my boat again this year. Way funner than hard deck.

It looked today like DC water level has gone up, hope so, the area I ice fish needs a little more depth.

My wife and I like to go over to the Renegade area of Strawberry. We seldom catch less than 10 each in a couple of 3 hours, often times more than 10 ea. We catch a few Kokes and a few rainbow, which we take home for dinner. Until the lake freezes up enough, we take the road over via snowmobile (about an 8 mile trip) Generally we are the only ones over there. We like to arrive before sunup, be fishing by 8 a.m. and stay until 11 or 12 noon, when the bite slows considerably. Then we stop for lunch at Dickies in Heber. Makes for a great date. Strawberry is our favorite place to go. Sometimes we take the drive over the hill to Starvation. If we could go every weekend, we would... but generally only get out about 1 time every two or three weeks. Two years ago we were fishing Renegade until April. Last year we only fished until about February. A very short season.

We fished it through March with at least 10 inches of ice all the way. The ice down here in the valley was gone, but Strawberry was way good into the first of April.[/#800000][/font]

Starting the process. Picked these two bad boys up this week. Still got some waterfowl hunting to do before the hard deck gets here. Hope that this year has better ice conditions / situations.

When I go to strawberry I usually just go to the ladders, don't have a snow mobile and its easy access with some pretty good luck. Going to try going overnight this year tho, try from about 2am to noon and see how it goes.

Yeah, it hit me right after bow season this year. I really haven't fished much for about 18 months, and suddenly the one night I spent on PV catching medium-sized crappie, alone in the dark, through the ice stood out as a highlight of the year.
