New Ogden Utah kid.
#1
Hey I'm new to this site but from what I've explored it's the best site out there for knowledge and fish stories.

I'm a kid from Ogden Utah with a passion for fishing and looking to gain knowledge from any place possible. Been having some hard times on the river lately and just looking for help as to how I can become a better angler and catch more fish regularly. If you're from the Ogden area or surrounding areas especially I would love to hear from you and pick your brain. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help and dish out some knowledge.

Thanks again,

Cord Stimpson

Welcome Cord. Thank you for taking the time to register.
We are all eager to share as well as learn from others.

What kind of fishing do you do? Spin, baitcast, flyfishing?

Please don't forget to check back here as other members give you a warm welcome. We also have the Utah state board with some of your local members.

Welcome to the site Cord, Fall is one of the best times of the year for stream fishing. I'm going to move your post to our Utah board, so some of the other members can greet you and hopefully give you some helpful info.

Welcome. This is a great site and you will learn a lot from the members.

I don't know what kind of fishing you are looking to do but if you are a stream fisherman I would highly recommend learning to fly fish particularly with nymphs. The Weber river is an amazing place for nymphing. You will catch lots of fish regularly on the Weber with nymphs.

If you are interested in this type of fishing send me a PM and I can give you some advise to shorten the learning curve.

Fly fishing is really all I do. My room mate and I try to get out as much as possible. We have been on the Weber a couple times a week for the past few months but have also just packed up and taken day trips to all sorts of places from Ogden to Duschesne. We're not beginners by any means but it's just frustrating thinking you should be hauling in more pigs! The Weber has been kind to us though as you said the nymphs have been great.

I as well throw the fly as best I can. Just got done fishing the weber tonight. Just can't seem to be catching what I want or expect to catch!

It could be the section of the river you are fishing, have you tried fishing up the canyon any or are just fishing the lower Weber?

We've fished everything. Mostly around Coalville and Wanship but I'm from South Ogden so if I just have an hour or two I'll just fish lower. Don't get me wrong we catch fish. Just not as many or as frequent as I feel we should. 1-3 a day?

Try the Ogden River. Also head up to Logan.

I guess then, it depends on the amount of time you are fishing but I'd think in some stretches of the Weber 1 to 3 fish per hour would be about right. Have you tried along that walking trail in Riverdale, it goes from where the Ogden and Weber rivers meet all the way up Unita, at the mouth of the canyon. Lots of good fishing in that section and very good access.
