Nice burb! Was that the only one you caught up there? I'm trying to convince Some friends to head up there but they want to know the fish are there. Did you come across any Macs?

[shocked]I'm curious, where do your friends think the fish go? Maybe catch a flight to a different lake down south for the winter or something?[Wink] Tell them the fish never leave. They're here, 365 days a year, round the clock.

It always cracks me up when some clown calls me and asks, "are the lake trout runnin' now?" Yep, they're runnin' all right.[crazy]

Saturday, I landed three burbs and a pup.

Sunday, I landed three burbs.

The bit is soft and all fish were caught during the day. Nothing at night.

I was marking fish all day on a flasher, but they either hit it or they didn't hit it and just looked at it.

Firehole is not a great spot for Macs, I would wait until lost dog and the confluence is safe fishing ice - if it is Macs that you are after.

Some of us just aren't good at it at all.

If you do what works for everybody else and what everybody recommmends but catch no fish a couple of times in a row, you get the, I assume false impression that you have to be there on the "right" day, or the right conditions.

Seven winter trips to Flaming Gorge, and I still haven't caught a laker or a burbot, so I grin whenever people roll their eyes at "those guys".

U might want to hire a guide could put u on fish teach u a thing or two about the gorge and how to fish for the iffrent species.in the end it will be money well spent if u have made seven trips and still have skunk on ya good luck

You're right, but a guide fee for a day might be my fishing budget for the year.

Ya, those guide rates can get spendy. I know, because there's a bunch I'd like to book and fish with that my budget won't allow![shocked]

However, 7 round-trips to the Gorge might still cost more than one or two days of guided fishing that you split with a buddy or two. And, you would certainly learn a lot, and might even catch a fish or two, in one round trip instead of 7. Might make your next 7 a lot more productive too.
