Strawberry 12/7/2015 Changing!

Three of us went to Strawberry Main Marina. Arrived at 10:00am. The ramp was dry and the air temperature was pleasant. There was ice covering most of the lake to the south east of the ramp. There was one boat to the north east of the marina. We went south west towards the East Portal. One section of about 100 feet the USS Lund was navigating a thin sheet of ice. No problem! The water temp was 32.1 degree. My thought was Strawberry will be frozen completely with a layer of ice tomorrow morning. It was the fringe of ice forming. We caught several fish using white tub jigs with a piece of night crawler. The biggest fish was 23."

As we left at 2:00pm a breeze from the west had cleared the ice. Water temp was 34 degrees which surprised me it went up. There was one float tuber a couple hundred yards to the south east of the marina and one boat to the west by the camping area. Two boats launched as we loaded.

My boat is now completely bedded down for the winter. The post from today by the four fishermen in the Meadows makes me want to go again.

The highway from US 40 to the Marina is partially snow packed with dry sections.

Nice report! Looks fun! Were you trolling the tube jigs? How deep?

I had such a hard time finding out the condition of the ramp that my wife and I drove to the Strawberry Main Marina Saturday evening at 5:00pm. I took some photos to show you BFT what it looked like Saturday and Monday morning.

The last pontoon boat was just ready to leave the parking lot. The four fishermen decided my wife and I should see the four fish they were taking home. Two rainbows and two slot buster cutthroats. Any time a person like this young man needs two arms to hold a fish, that fish is worth a photo.

My wife and I enjoyed watching the fish rolling just west of the ramp as the sun was setting.

We were in 35 feet of water casting and reeling. We caught most of the fish in the 35-48 foot depths. Several times as the white tube jigs came in fish were following them. Even had one where a fish on the tub jig was being followed by another fish to the boat.
