my buddy fished it yesterday and said there was 3", he fished for 6 hrs and said it was tough. He spoke to the game warden and they reported that others were having a tough time as well.. game and fish made it sound like the perch and gill were pounded hard in the fall... I will be hitting it thursday

I'm probably more cautious at my age, but my absolute minimum at Mantua is 4" of new ice. That lake has many warm springs that create thin spots. I'll wait until after the next cold snap to venture out.

In my experience ice fishing Mantua, it's all about location, location, location. The fish are there, and in good numbers. The key is to move around until you locate them. With that said, 2-3 inches of ice and several warmer springs scattered about the lake will keep this kid off from it for the moment...

When I drove by yesterday at 1 pm, I saw no one on Mantua and it looked to me that there was water showing on the surface. For what it's worth.

I was up there yesterday, fished along the dike, there was 4 inches of ice for at least 20-30 yards out where we were. fishing was slower, 6 bows 1 perch and 1 bass in about 6 hours of fishing
