Fished Chicken Creek this morning, -27 in the parking lot prior to sunrise! 8" of ice...consistent...very slick, need your treads.

3 of us landed 16 nice cuts...most in the 18-20 range. My son was the big fish winner. Photo attached. Put er back to swim again![Smile]

Was up there also. I think it was the coldest temp I have ever fished in. Dropped hooks in at 8:30 and ripped it until 10ish. 10 trout at 19-20 inches. First time I have ever fished Strawberry and I have grown up in the Ogden area. I've been missing out.

One other thing to note....the conditions were perfect for sight fishing...first time I had really ever done that. I was able to watch the fish and how they attacked the tube jig. Alot of times they grab the head of the jig....and obviously a hook set = a miss...or that momentary "fish on" before they let go after a crank or two. You would watch until they got it from behind and then it was 100% hook ups. Very interesting to watch. White, Glow, Chartreuse and motor oil 2.5" tubes all worked. Caught a couple on ratfinkees...glow and pink. Everything (including tubes) tipped with meal worms and the tubes filled with Anchovy sticky liquid.

Question.....do you all use the 2.5" fat tubes or the smaller diameter tubes? Thinking sizing down would help the "head bites"?

Thanks!

I use 2.5"-3" tubes. With the same results. It sure is fun watching them bite. I've got my neck and back pretty sore from looking down the hole for hours. Downsizing helped and jigging raps or comparable lures work well there. I put pro cure on everything I'm not going to eat myself. Because I don't want to hinder the action of small lures with bait. Have fun I hope you catch a monster.

I thought there would be 2 to 3 feet of snow on top of the ice. Where did all the snow go? I am really surprised to hear that it was slick.
How deep were you fishing?

Thanks for the post and pics.

The ice formed after the snowstorms...no snow on the ice just a little accumulation of frost. We fished in 12-14' of water, the fish were all over the column but most were at 6-8' deep.
