Pineview 12/29
#1
Went to Pineview yesterday evening......

I have heard some reports of 5" of ice...may be true but sure not the case in the Browning Point area. 3 1/2" only and that is with a tape measure. We had a group of 5 in a tent and we had to kick a few out to spread the weight out...it was cracking and popping and flooding the ice pretty good. The first person to take a 4 wheeler or snowmobile out there is going to lose it
..

Regarding fishing it was not good ....very disappointing as we were dialed in there last year. The water is much lower this year so the depths are different (when using geographic points as a means of finding your spots from years past.

I literally made swiss cheese of the ice in the entire Browning Point area , from 15' of water out to 45' of water, went East, West you name it....The ONLY fish marked were at 40' and right on the bottom. My gut tells me they were small perch...I fished then for awhile and could only elicit a tiny nibble....the marks were small...so totally thinking they were baby perch.

Last year we consistently found Crappie in that area in 42' of water...

I'll keep looking!

I think your right, I'll take the wheeler but probably not run it. Did you see people in the narrows ? How was the snow in the parking areas?

I could not see the narrows from where were. I come over the N Ogden divide so didn't get a drive by view..sorry. Parking lot is fine at Browning Point. From our group yesterday you should have a nice packed trail out to the lake. Would love an ice thickness report from the narrows...

I reported that there was 5" of ice yesterday. BUT that was in the Cemetery point area. As I stated yesterday as a response to my report...There was a noticeable pressure ridge coming from the end of Cemetery point and shooting across the lake to just east of Browning point. The ice is probably 3 1/2" once you go west of Cemetery, and or straight across from there to Browning.

Please Copy and paste this link to a report I posted earlier this season...

Please read the WHOLE report on Echo Early Ice that I posted. There are some good safety tips in that thread that explain things like early ice protocol when fishing in a group. Read the whole thing and look at the pic I posted in the original post, and how we progressed out drilling test holes with only one man at the hole drilling. It is pretty important when fishing Early Ice. Notice what I said about the ice sagging underneath you and knowing what to do.....Probably not a good Idea to put that many people (5) in a tent together on that thickness of ice (known 3 1/2" of ice).
