Finally resorted to a pet store for some. Walmart, Cabellas and side fishing stores do not have any.

Petsmart is a year round supply. Many other critters as well. (crickets, meal worms, many different kinds of worms)

At this time of year when all the usual locations are sold out I resort to pet shops as well. They may be a little more expensive depending upon the shop but they usually have them due to pets needing to be fed.

We almost always find them in gas stations in and around Springville. The 7/11 off of the 400s exit in Springville has them just about every time we go lookin...

[laugh][laugh][laugh] good point.....

I picked up a can of them at Pet Smart and they discounted the can 30% off because there were few black ones in there.... I'm no expert on keeping waxies fresh. I threw out the black ones and put the live ones back in the fridge after a quick outing to newton (dec 2nd).... fast forward to December 26th, my next outing, they were still 'fresh'.... more limp than plump though... but no black ones! I wonder if there is a magic temperature to keep them at... maybe look into wax worm farming [cool]

the Lakeside Marina at Fish Lake sells meal worms. I know you asked for wax worms, but with meal worms you get twice the amount of worm!

According to the farms that raise them, the optimum temp to keep them at is 45 degrees. But the most important thing to do is to maintain that temp as close as you can. They say that variable temp changes is the worst thing for them. With that said, I keep mine in the fridge and when I go fishing I put them in a small cooler and keep it closed except to get fresh bait. I purchase my waxes by the tub of 500 and they last the whole ice season. Hope this helps you.

This is where I get my bait. I've been using them for the past several years. Just remember to follow their storage instructions.

Rainbowmealworms.net
all sorts of bait or lizard products in large or small quantities. Shipping is more reasonable with larger quantities.

Smith and Edwards, 250 per tub not 500, sorry. I buy two tubs and combine them into one tub. Each tub of 250 is like 7.99 and they usually get them in around the second week of December. I always call them to make sure they have them before driving out there, and they are good quality too.
