First time post. Looking for Rockport reports
#1
Hello everyone! Long time member first time post. Wondering if anyone has a recent report from Rockport? I plan to go in the morning.

Fishing is slow, or at least it has been for me. Mainly trout, the Perch aren't going crazy yet. I've had mild success fishing a small white tube tipped with wax worm but that doesn't really produce "the big ones". I did lose a pole already to a fish because fishing was so slow I fell asleep and woke up to the pole going into the drink.

The fish are REALLY picky right now and if they can see any hook it's almost like they aren't interested at all.

I haven't heard anything about people fishing near the pressure ridges. I've only been fishing down by the dam near the road. I have seen a lot more people on the boat ramp side (like 2-3x as many) of the reservoir but they are mostly spread out. On the state road side of the lake, there's usually a handful of people at the dam and the second outhouse.

In years past, fishing where the first pressure ridges of ice formed has been good for me (one of the reasons why I took so many pictures of the lake while ice was forming).

Try looking through a few pages of posts here, there have been some recent reports. I fished East Canyon not too long ago (very similar to Rockport) and I learned a few things. As usual, location is important. Don't fish too long in one spot if you aren't seeing fish. Try different spots such as really shallow, really deep, or near points or rocky structure. Also try different lures. I didn't have a hit all day at EC until I switched to a little white ice fly tipped w/wax worm. Caught 3 in a row.

Another tip: Don't be afraid to talk to people. You can get instant up-to-date fishing reports quite easily by asking people that are currently fishing.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Always a good idea. I usually talk to an angler or two depending upon where I am at. I also freely will help when asked on the water. One year I went as far as to give someone the fly I was using.

A friend of mine was up there today. He caught 5 bows in the first 30 min. By 11 a.m. he was up to 20 fish and his entire party got over 50 by noon. I don't have more information (exact location, bait, jigs, ect) but it seems it is good if you can get into it.

The southeast of the lake was totally littered with people today. West side of the lake had a few. Couple people at the dam. Saw about 7 snowmobiles and a 4wheeler on the lake. Couldn't tell how the fishing was fairing from the glass. But wow that was a lot of cars on the road (almost couldn't get in our gate).

I drove by RP today, and there was a lot of people, but some areas were wide open for the picking. I didn't even bother, not because of the crowds, but because the rainbow trout fishing has really tanked up there. Two years ago there used to be huge schools of 17-20" bows everywhere. The holdover rainbows seemed to have just tanked big time.

I zoomed down onto the ice trading gear tow for fishing reports today.

The people who hung around later stated that fishing was good early on in the day but died off at 11. Trout was the primary catch in 11' of water. This was universal for the lake. People fishing in 15' and people fishing at 60' were catching fish at 11' deep.

I imagine that the top of the lake is still warm and the thermocline is no where near flipping.

So we are about a month out from perch but trout is good up top.

The general report stated that people were getting their limits. So fishing is no longer slow.
