Holmes Creek
#1
I've been icefishing holmes the last few days. It seems to be a lot slower this year than years past. I have been catching most of my fish with pink jigs and pretty small. If you do want to fish there I would suggest pink jigs and being prepared to wait a while in between bites. Hopefully it heats up soon. I have caught two bass out of there as well which is unusual for me on the ice other than that just pretty slow trout fishing at Holmes Creek Reservoir.

I love fishing Holmes. I live close and I can usually get in a little fishing when I only have a few hours to kill. I've only been out on Holmes ice once thus year, but like you said very slow. It was one of my few times I left smelling the skunk. Thanks for the tip about the pink jigs, I'll have to give it a try.

How thick is the ice at Holmes? I live in West Layton and want to take the kids up there maybe Monday. What part of the lake is good and how far from shore do you go? I don't have a finder so it's a guessing game most trips.

Pretty small pond. Just move around until you find the fish.

We need to try my old apot. And a new spot I think will be good. Obviously our usual spot isn't producing well.

I caught 15 of the planter rainbows at Holmes over the weekend. I moved around a ton and ended up finding them a foot from the bottom in 7-8 FOW off the North shore. The action got pretty fast as evening set in. Wax and meal worms worked well. I used a glow gizzy bug and pink ice fly and had great luck on both. The fish were all 9-11". I caught a few off "point" near the center of the reservoir but they were also in much shallower water than last year.
My camera shows a good mix of perch, bluegill, and small crappie near the bottom in 22-29 FOW but they don't seem to be hungry for anything I have.

Last time I checked which was on Monday the ice was 7-8 inches thick. I haven't gone out since then because of the warmer temperatures but its probably good and its getting a little colder again so it should be fine this weekend.
