I have never been on the ice at Starvation. How is the access from highway 40 on the dirt road to rabbit gulch? Do they plow it at all or is it just packed from people using it? Thanks in advance.

[#0000ff]The turnoff is not marked. See the attached map for some help. After passing the Strawberry River turnoff sign on the south side of the road, look for a left turn lane and some mailboxes. The road is paved all the way back to the Gulch these days. Just don't take the turnoff to the north where the road turns. Keep going east.
Since there are oil company vehicles and permanent residents using the roads they are usually maintained.

The last time I was there a few years ago. It was plowed on the payment just off of hwy 40, but after going past the fee station at Rabbit Gulch and where you park. It turns to dirt and the snow is just packed from all off the vehicles.

Last sat it was snow packed, not plowed. But no problem for my 2wd truck. A fwd car should be ok as long as you have decent tires.

Thanks TD, I was there last Oct. when our boat would not start. I drove all the way down with the boat in tow. The road was narrow and some was missing on the north side. Did not know if they kept it plowed for access that far past the fee shack.
I will PM you about another lake to get some more info if that's all right.
Thanks

[#0000FF]As you have also been advised, they do not plow it past the end of the pavement. But lots of traffic usually keeps the snow packed...and passable for most vehicles...if you don't try to get too creative.
