Oregon Fishing Question
#1
Not a lot of activity on the Oregon State big fish tackle page so I guess I'll throw it out here in case any of you are familiar. I'm looking to put together a fishing trip with my dad and brothers toward the end of July. Will there be any salmon running then? And any particular areas of the coast we could focus on(ie. north, central, south)?

Focus on the North Coast. A VERY good guide - the best in my opinion - is David Johnson. The big fishing forum in the NW is a site called ifish

Sept is the fall chinook run-- just google "upriver brights" that should give you plenty of reading material.

Places other than Buoy 10 are the mouth of the Deschutes river, the mouth of the Klickitat that are closer to Utah.

I would recommend Capt Jack with Young's guide service - great guy & great fisherman

I would recommend going to Astoria area, if you are looking to get on the ocean as well. I have fished the area a few times, once for sturgeon and twice for salmon. The Chinook and Coho seasons are separate, but sometimes overlap at the end of June. You would have to look. I fished with Ilwaco Charters. They were pretty good guys. Good with my younger nephews and older father. Everyone had a good time. Last year I also bought a pole while I was there and fished for surf pearch from the shore in Seaside.
You can also rent a crab boat for a few hours with pots and bait at Wheeler marina. The Dungeness are in season and fun to haul catch and even better to eat.

I like the cities of Canon Beach, Or and Long Beach, WA. Canon beach is a little more upscale. Lots of options for other activities.

I love the area. Have fun!
