Lake Powell South
#1
I loaded up our pontoon boat "Hope" and a half dozen combat veterans and headed to Wahweap marina for the week end.
Fishing was slow, as expected, but we had a great time. We fished Lone Rock, Navajo Canyon and Antelope Canyon without much success. All fishing was accomplished by trolling as we searched for schools to jig.
A local fisherman on the dock (the only fisherman we saw in 3 days) told us to try Ice Cream Canyon so we did. There were a few fish at the mouth of the canyon and we picked up a few more back in the canyon. Water temps were around 50 degrees with air temps never exceeding 38 degrees. Cold but fishable. The fish we caught and the companionship we experienced on this beautiful lake made up for the cold
Lake Powell Resorts provided the rooms for the veterans which were greatly appreciated. Aramark is a great corporation who supports our nations veterans

.
We caught stripers and smallmouth and all fish were fat and healthy. The bigger stripers weighed around 5 lbs.Obviously, it is not the ideal time to fish Lake Powell but if you are looking for open water to fish......It is an option. We'll be back again when the temperatures rise 25 degrees and the walleye bite begins.
