The Gorge Ice Thickness

Hey all. Headed out to the burbot bash this weekend and was curious as to how thick the ice is? Hoping to take the quads out to lighten the work load. Any ideas?

It depends on where you go. Buckboard to Firehole should be good. I would drill a couple test holes before.

I have fished from Firehole all the way down near the Pipeline over the past month. FIrehole has 12"+ and down by the pipeline is around 6".

Swim I heard had 6" as well last week. But I have not been there as of yet.

I did see there was ice down in Linwood Bay and seen some people Ice Fishing there.

I just got back from the gorge yesterday. Ice was 4 at swim in the middle and 5 in other places along the edge. I keep waiting to hear how someone went through trying to go out on it on a wheeler. It was sketchy as hell until it snowed and you couldn't see the dangerous spots anymore then it was in gods hands. I would be very carefull trying it with a heavy 4 wheeler. Pipeline had a soft spot in the middle, slush ice bad, that we went into and had to turn around and take a wide birth. Anvil is the same way in the middle but better ice. We got stuck trying to drive around south of anvil and had to chain up to get out. The Gorge will test you for icefishing for sure. Cant wait till all of this is thawed out and boat fishable again....

All the places that are easy to get to have been hammered. We did ok but had to work for our fish. We didn't get anything huge. Itll be good for the ling fisherman having ice to get out on. Good luck to everyone...
