Weather Help
#1
I've been busy with other stuff besides fishing for the past ten years. About to retire (everyday will be Saturday) so I've started ice fishing this winter. Any help you can provide on how the weather effects fishing would be most appreciated. When's the best time to fish? Day before a storm? During the storm? Day following the storm? Falling barometer? Raising barometer? Red sky in the morning? Red sky at night? Again, observations and opinions are certainly appreciated.

Hope you get lots of info.

My only input is that I have seen a pattern on my trips where those really cold, oppressive, foggy, high pressure days, the days the valley inversions are really bad, I never catch fish.

Starting to seem like it's good ahead of the storm and drops off during and after its just gone through, but that is never a for sure. Best time to fish is when you can and if you can all the time, then fish when you feel like it. Good luck and we look forward to your reports. Later J

This is a pretty standard write-up of how air pressure affects fishing:

Low pressure is bad, and a storm coming in on a low pressure front will often cause a sharp rise in feeding just before the pressure drops and then shut feeding off for anywhere from one to three days depending on how severe. Gradually rising pressure can increase fish activity. Fishing during a storm is the kind of crazy thing I like to do, this last summer I was fishing during a light, warm rain and caught my best haul of the year, four 16 to 18" rainbows on Deer Creek. When the rain stopped, the fish stopped.
