Starvation
#1
Any advice for Starvation, planning on taking my boys in the morning for Perch....we had zero luck last weekend at Hyrum, but we were there right before the storm.

[#0000FF]Lots of small perch, with some up to 10 inches. They seem to stay in shallower water...12 to 15 feet...over the remnants of underwater weed beds.

Fish smaller jigs, tipped with waxworm, a piece or crawler or perch meat. A lot of folks swear by using perch eyes. The bite is light so a spring bobber will help.

If you get on the ice at Rabbit Gulch, you can find the edge of the channel on the south side not far from shore. That is a good place to start. Look for holes used by others. If you are up for a hike you can go across the channel and fish the north side to get away from some of the crowd.

If you want to try for trout, put one rig down only about 6-8 feet under the ice. That is where a lot of the trout come through. But quite a few trout are also hooked on or near the bottom while fishing for perch.

Good luck.

[#0000FF]A couple of maps for reference.

The "bridge" is the Hwy 40 bridge going toward Duchesne.

Now that is going above and beyond in the help department. Thank You for all the help! Im serious! I've never fished Starvation and your post is very helpful. However you are probably going to take a lot of friendly fire for being so specific. Good Job, anyway!

I agree, excellent post TubeDude! I find that information like this is the best kind - not giving one specific spot but at least pointing folks in the right direction.

Great pdf posting..that was a lot of info, and a lot of work on your part..I spent some (way too much) time going over it, and should have been in bed, but I went thru THE WHOLE ENCHILADA, 'cuz it was very well done..I ice fished it late Feb. of 2013 and 6 of us in our group all got nice sized limits of tasty perch...we didn't go back the next year because we had heard of the crash, and may hold out for 1 more season to let them rebound..it is a long way for me, but the Starvy Steelies also sound interesting...maybe? tks again...

[#0000FF]Thanks. Glad you liked it.

Starvy doesn't produce the numbers of Strike, or the size perch of Cascade, but it is closer. And when it is on it can be well worth the trip.

Agreed on being closer may have to make a date...would you happen to know the ice thickness in those areas...would be nice to take the ice chariot out if we did venture that-ta-way.

Ice thickness at Starvation is not an issue. I used my Can-Am ATV last week and we went all over the lake. The ice was 14 to 16 inches everywhere we fished. I didn't see any spots of concern. People have been all over the lake with snowmobiles.
Have at it!
