Rockport report sat Jan 23
#1
Fished Rockport from 830-1115. We had pretty good success. 4 of us caught about 25 rainbows. We kept 12. We fished 16 feet of water on the southwest side and we had more luck only letting our jigs down about 6 feet below the surface. White jigs with cutr bugs and glow tubes all worked. Also a green ratfinkie worked as well. Mealworms worked the best followed by wax worms. We didn't get much love with anything tipped with worms. The fish would come thru in schools. Nothing for about 20 minutes then 2 or 3 poles would all get bites. Most of them were 9-10 inches with 4 going about 12 inches. No tagged fish either!! We really wanted one, as I'm sure the whole tent city did.

Thanks for the report. I think we were the group next to you guys. Thanks for the tips. We set up new rigs after your tip and caught a couple and moved over after you guys left and starting connecting to some good numbers finally. Seemed crazy 100 feet could be so different.

Great when fellow fisherman are willing to share!

Yeah it is strange how that can happen-one area is hot and 100 feet away it wasn't. Glad you got into some. Did that tall guy and his son wander over? As we were leaving they said they were checking ice fishing out and were asking if the lake was safe to be on. They didn't have an auger. I let them know to go over to that area that we had drilled quite a few holes and drop a line down. Take care.

Browns haven't gone anywhere...As for the rainbows, being that rockport is managed as put & take you can't really expect good fishing to last any longer than a couple years at a time. As frustrating as that is, the DWR in this state caters to the family-powerbait-eat sum planters-mafia more than they cater to anglers that want to catch quality fish.

Were you the tent city of mostly Eskimo style 3 man tents that was in a circle?

Pretty sure I passed you guys on my snowmobile around 11:30.

I remember think "now that's a party!"

Yes we were in that area but we don't have a tent.

That has got to be one of the most condescending, arrogant posts anyone has ever posted! Because a family guy wants to keep a few planters, HE'S PART OF THE MAFIA????

My wish for you is that Karma bites you smack in the middle of your over-inflated ego!

Not that I saw, we stayed to about 1230 was all. 2 weeks ago we were in about the same spot, over 70 fish between 4 of us with 6 over 17 inches, 1 being 21.5. We actually caught one of the tagged fish. 5 were caught the first week.
Thanks again.

Nice try, but you completely misinterpreted what I wrote. I did NOT say that anybody who keeps a fish is part of the mafia, nor did I say that keeping a fish was a bad thing. I was simply using the term as an adjective to describe the omnipresent put and take crowd that the DWR loves. Because they have such a large influence on the regulations and the management style of the fisheries here in Utah.

As for Karma..Karma for what? Voicing my opinion? Last time I checked it was a free country and we are all free to voice our opinions.

It is simply my opinion that the good majority of the reservoirs in Utah are more like oversized holding tanks for planter rainbows, then they are quality fisheries. You don't have to agree with my opinion, but I stand by what I wrote.

Thanks for the report. Sounds fun!

Look at the Smiles on those kids faces. That right there is why lakes like Rockport are managed as they are and taking home a dozen planters is a perfect use for them. Enjoy the fish fry.

For those that want bigger fish, the browns are still there as always, and I'm quite sure the bigger bows have not been fished out either. Or go elsewhere.

Man I read through your post and must have missed what the other dude thought you saying was condescending, I didn't see that at all! It's funny how on this site people can jump down someone's throat over an opinion, ha.
I wish a lot of these lakes had more quality fish in them as well. I'm with ha.

Great job,, I love seeing young kids out on the ice fishing. I used to take all my nephews and my daughters when they were young.

+1

I personal would like to see some tighter restrictions on the browns in our reservoirs.
