Devils Derby
#1
My daughter and I entered the Devil Cr Derby. She out fished me little with a 27 inch bow for first place. I couldn't even get a raffle prize. She used a small green tube jig nothing special. I was pretty proud of her.

WOW!!! That is awesome to hear that a youth had won the first prize. I know that a lot of them guys probably got nervous about a 27 inch fish showing up. Cause that is the size of the fish that came down from a different pond [angelic] But that just goes to show ya anybody can be the winner. Just a little tip for ya. Get an 8x10 picture of her and the fish and put it in a frame. She will treasure it forever. Tell her congratulations from Pikeman on Big Fish Tackle. You go girl. My son was in the money one year. He loved it. [Smile]

I'm not sure if this is it but it's a very big bow. Congrats to the winner.

Yep, that's the winner for sure WH. The derby was terrible this year for most of the people there. The fishing was way slow and most fish were just small planters, definitely my worst year since the very first derby, don't think I'll be going next year unless some bigger fish get planted in that pond.

Congrats on the big fish little lady!

I'm really surprised there were any fish in there that big. Have you every seen anyone catch a fish out of Devil's that big?

The organizers were there right after she caught it and it was still alive. He said it was the largest he had seen. second place was a 25 incher also larger than anything previously caught in the derby. I believe the boys at the hatchery dropped in some brood stock on there last stocking. The first place fish looked like a brood stock.

That makes sense, I always thought of Devil creek as being a put and take fishery.

Good job. You don't see fish like that everyday out of that lake.

I haven't ever seen anything that big come out of devils for about 30 years now. A long time ago you could fish that place from the shore and catch some great fish in that category but those days are gone. I have fished that derby since the first one and I believe the largest has only been 22 3/4 inches. That was a nice fish this year.

It was actually my best year fishing the derby and I still did not win any money. The slush kept everyone to the south, and it was very crowded. I caught three fish bigger than I have ever caught there this year. The fish are getting bigger, but everyone was concentrated on the south end of the damn. I always have a great time. The slush was deep, but the first half of the day the fish were biting like crazy. [sly]
