Just wondering if anybody has been to Porcupine recently? If so, is the road open all the way to the dam? Any travel or fishing info is greatly appreciated!

They are only plowing to the bottom. The whole way up to the dam is not plowed this year. 4X4 is needed to get up to the dam.

I live 3 miles this side of the dam on that main road and agree with the other post - they do plow the road to the base of the dam. I drove up the unplowed road onto the dam on Tuesday (Jan. 26) and did have my vehicle in four wheel drive. There were a couple other vehicles up there and if you drive in the ruts, you might be ok. However, snow beside the ruts is kind of wet and can make it difficult to get out from it you slide off. I didn't go much further down the road but someone had driven down towards the inlet end of the lake. I could see someone out on the ice down there. Two guys had a trailer with snowmobiles and had driven down onto the ice by the dam. A third guy had walked down the dam face, which I considered too steep for my old bones. I headed over to Hyrum. While I was there, a guy showed up next to me and said he just came from Porcupine and he was the one that had walked down the dam face. He said fishing was lousy and that is why he left.

Another member and I were the ones you saw up by the dam on Tues on Snowmobiles, to say the fishing was slow is an understatement, the fish were coming through but they were not biting. That guy you talked to at Hyrum was fishing right next to us and he was very disappointed, as he told you. We fished in three locations, same results, at all three spots.

Thanks for the info everyone. Hopefully the fishing is better than it was earlier in the week! I'm also getting used to lousy trout fishing, so I wont hold any high expectations! I have noticed at multiple locations that the fishing will go from nothing to hot for an hour or so, then turn off again. Hopefully we'll get into them at the right place/time tomorrow!
