Hi Fellas, I have an opportunity tomorrow to introduce a new fisherman to the ice. I see that both Echo and Starvation have been great, but I've fished neither on ice for a while. Where would you go if you had a first-timer and would any of you point me a good direction to start?
Thanks!

I've been having the best success up at Echo this season! Never fished starvation through the ice so I wouldn't be able to compare them. If you want more info on who PM me.

I've had success at both lakes this season. That said, I'd say Starvation would be easier on the noobs. Access and walking are easier, and the fishing is generally more consistent at Starvation. If you go there, I've done well at around 20 feet on the north (far) side of Rabbit Gulch. If you go to Echo, the snow is deeper and access is rather steep at the better spots. I'd stay to the south of the marina in about 25 feet of water. Small jigging spoons tipped with green gulp maggots and also perch eyes have been working best for me. Make sure you have a spring bobber on your rods for those light bites. Mid-afternoon seems to be the slowest part of the day. Morning and later in the afternoon seem to be the best times.

Just wanted to say thanks a bunch to Clem. He was nice enough to text advice while we tried our hand at Echo. We had a lot of fun, but seemed to be in the perch nursery. A nice rainbow made the day even better!

Glad you found them! How thick was the ice? I'm going to be up that way this weekend, and was thinking of stopping by and dropping a line.

Wing, 12-15". Top 2 is cloudy, solid foot of clear ice below. The edges got a little watery by afternoon, but remained solid.
