We started out pretty early from home, stopped at Maverick and they didn't have any Bahama Mamas on the warmer...bummer. Next just down the road a rather large bird flew into my truck and scared the crap out of my grandson.
We got up to Hyrum just as it started to get light, it was a balmy 19 degrees. We went East of the launch about 400 yds and drilled plenty of holes ranging from 35' to 11' after I had a heck of a time getting my auger started. We then dropped the fish finders in and marked a few fish, thought the day was going to get better.....not to be, I noticed that my fish finder only had 9 volts and soon died after that. Well, I use to fish without one years ago and did ok, I will try and see what I can catch since it is my grandsons first trip and there is no way I am going to disappoint him.
I didn't catch a thing, and the only bite that I got is when I dozed off for a nap which was about 2 minutes after I got my eyes closed. Not my day at all but through it all my son managed to hook some fish and let my 4 yr. old grandson reel them in, the
on his face was worth every minute of the bad luck that I had.
The catching wasn't all that stellar but the fishing was great, he is still talking about it today, the
s and giggles are priceless that come out of him.
Me - 0, my son and grandson - 5 trout and 3 perch. We put plenty of colors and combinations down the hole, just wasn't meant to be I guess but very much worth being out on the ice.
