We fished bear lake in two locations yesterday. Started on the south west end of the lake at one of the pull offs. That was a dead zone, we didn't even get a bite or mark fish on the flasher. So we decided to move north. We went to the town access point (north of the rock pile) and got into a few as we fished for the rest of the day. It was still a bit slow, but fun. The ice looked a little sketchy when we got to the lake. We drilled test holes as we moved out. The temps have been pretty high during the day up there but the main ice pack seems to be holding... FOR NOW. The ice was still 6-8" depending on where you were but the top ice was soft and honeycomb. There was standing water on the lake monday from rain and it softened up the top couple inches of ice. It was ok all day yesterday, but if the warmer temps hold the ice will start to diminish quickly. We could see areas near the edges of the lake were getting a little thinner. There are a lot of pressure ridges out there so be careful when anywhere near them. Watch for small areas of open water out there. If the cold temps come back at night and the surface stiffens back up we might be good for a little while longer. Be careful if you head up there!
