LAKE POWELL BULLFROG MARINA
#1
I'M HEADED FOR BULLFROG FRIDAY. I REMEMBER READING A WHILE BACK THAT I NEEDED TO GET MY BOAT DECONTAMINATED. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT I CAN GET DONE THERE OR WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

THANKS

You are good to launch but when you leave you need to be sure to drain, and dry and decontaminate before you launch anywhere else. Last year they had an inspection station set up when you left the lake.

Hello lipripper, I left lake powell last friday the inspection station was closed for two weeks. You want to make sure you drain dry and clean your boat. There could be a check station somewhere on the road when you leave

The inspection station at Bullfrog was closed last week. They aren't doing any decon there. In the fall of 2014 there was an inspection station set up at Hanksville, but they just had us pull the drain plugs and lower the motor to make sure everything had been drained. If they found more than a cup of water, you got cited. Before you launch the first time they'll make sure you have a mussel certificate so you'll probably want to take the "course" online before you go and keep a copy in your truck to display. Of course you don't have to decontaminate before launching, only after, and you can do that by waiting 30 days before launching anywhere else.

It's great the way they were all over it when they did not have the bug but now they don't give a rats tail about it. Won't even help us by offering to decon. Thier bugs.
Typical gov. crap.
Sorry to vent but.

I fished areas from mm 87-95 hitting all the hot spots mentioned in other posts ended the day with 4. Some of these other posts made it seem so easy but that's why it's called fishing

Wayne G reported slow fishing in the south end also. Did you locate the schools?

I trolled around for about 2 hours dropping on everything I thought was fish. Never got a bump everything I got was scattered marks. I'm gonna try a few of the same spots you mentioned today to see if they've turned on.

I have been wanting to go down for a long time, its still a bit cold. Its still a great trip even if fishing is slow. With gas prices down its time to reach out a little farther. How far north are you fishing? Do you know what the water temperature is? Thanks for your report and information.

Water temp was 47 when I was there 2/9 - 2/13. Too early and cold for bass but striper fishing was certainly great. I only went as far north as Knowles but reports are even better for the Good Hope area, especially Red Canyon. I didn't even need a jacket once the sun came up, but of course it's cold early morning going fast in the boat. Just watch for a good weather window, and you should be good! Make sure you read all the posts on WaynesWords.com.

I stayed somewhat close to bullfrog. I went from lake canyon to Moki then around dome rock. Had water temps from 48 to 54. Only caught 7 in 2 days. Marked 1 large school around Holmes that only flipped me the bird.

At Powell the Quagga mussel certification is no good at Powell, it's only good on state waters..
