I thought I would share a few "not" recommended pictures from Bear Lake yesterday. People have been asking about the ice conditions. I'll make another post with complete fishing/ice conditions later today. Don't try this on your local water.

Great way to make an artificial reef. Doubtful that is ever wise at Bear Lake, but to do it even after a warm spell.[crazy]

i used to see fisher people do that at Panguitch all the time. They would park their trucks side by side on about 14" of ice. I never saw anyone have a problem but I like my truck way too much to risk it, especially this time of year.

[#800000]It is a generally excepted fact in the ice belt states that it is safe to drive a medium size truck on 12" - 15" of CLEAR ice. (see the movie 'Grumpy Old Men). But the water levels in most of the ice belt state lakes do not fluctuate as they do in our man made reservoirs. And as Scott said - NOT RECOMMENDED ON BEAR LAKE.[/#800000]

Growing up in Northern Wis. that was the way we got around ice fishing back in the 50's and early 60's that's where I learned to drive. [cool] Bob are you going up to Strawberry Sat morning for the GTG that was suppose to be held at Pineview? I'd like to but still debating making the long run for just a days fishing.

I guess that means there is no rule here in Utah about driving on the ice[:/]? On another note I see the inline pics are working using Edge, is that correct?

Used to see it on BL all the time. I remember pulling up and a guy was sitting in his driver seat door open fishing right out of his truck heater on and raido going. Sure there are some springs and vents to watch for but if ya know the area why not I attached some ice thickness recommendations. I might not follow them but others obviously do

This made me laugh...! That is how we used to fish nearly every year at Bear Lake. Our trucks were always on the ice. We never ventured very far from shore but that was life back then. Any chance the guy you saw doing it was in a green or white Ford Bronco? I watched my uncle fish this way year after year. I'm hoping the ice will stick around just a little longer...

The inline pictures are still not working with Edge. I used an older computer with Win 7 and Firefox to post those pics. COME ON BFT, GET WITH THE PROGRAM AND MAKE YOUR WEBSITE WORK WITH EDGE!!!!
