High Uinta adventure anyone?

[#800000]Since the High Uinta lakes (Trial, Washington, Lilly, Lost, Mirror, etc.) are usually the first to freeze and the last to thaw, they are excellent candidates for early and late season ice fishing. And yet, except for a couple of very early season reports on them, they are pretty much left alone.[/#800000]

[#800000]I’m wondering if we might be able to put together a small group of folks that own snowmobiles and make an adventure up there via Hwy 150 out of Kamas. I would love to do this sometime in March, but due to the long ride in and out[#800000] (about 15 miles one way) and the always present dan[/#800000]ger of mechanical failure on snowmobiles, I would want to go with a group of at least 5 machines. Ten machines would be even better. That way, if a machine did break, nobody would be stranded.[/#800000]

[#800000]So what say you? If you own a snowmobile and enjoy ice fishing, would you be interested in getting together with like-minded folks and go fish the High Uintas?[/#800000]

Hey Bob I was up at Whitney Res ten days ago and it was crazy but we were riding across the lake and all of a sudden we were in slush so we pegged the throttle and got off of there, and since we were sledding not fishing, I didn't stop and check snow depth on the ice or ice thickness. But off the lake there was about 3-4' of snow. With slush visible on the surface, I would suspect the snow won't be 3' thick on the lake but I expect you'll need a shovel to clear you a spot and I'll bet the fish will be hungry. I was renting a sled at the time, because I didn't trust mine so I probably won't join you, but it sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck. J

Sounds like fun Bob but we want to make a trip to Strawberry first.

Hey Bob, got my machine out of the hospital so let me know when you are planning to go. I hate to give it up if I don't have to.

I would be up for it if it is the right Saturday, (Sundays are not an option). Of course I couldn't go without my bride. Or rather, she would not give me a kitchen pass without her. She works every other weekend at the Hospital, so schedule would be a factor for us. I too want to get another Strawberry trip in this year. Haven't made it to Renegade this year with my wife and we have been talking about a late season trip. perhaps Saturday next (March 5th). Renegade has always treated us well, but have wanted to try the Narrows sometime.

Wyoguy... where do you hail from? Are you a native? I see you are currently in Evanston. I started life 62 years ago in Star Valley (Afton), so I am a Utah transplant of about 56-58 years.

[#800000]Due to other commitments, I only have one weekend (Saturday) that will work for me. That would be Saturday, March 12, 2016. So there you have it folks.[/#800000]

[#800000]We can plan to meet for breakfast in the Park City or Kamas area and go in from the Kamas area unless somebody knows for sure that going in from Evanston would be a shorter ride to the lakes listed. If that were the case we could meet in Evanston instead.[/#800000]

If you are going to Mirror Lake, the road trip is shorter to ride the Mirror Lake highway. You start at Soap Stone. It is a nice snow mobile ride and on a clear day the scenery is spectacular. If you go in from Evanston, the road trip is longer, but the snowmobile ride up the Mirror Lake Highway is shorter. I think you start at the ranger station.

[#800000]Last call for this grand adventure. If I don't get commitment from at least 4 other snowmobile owners by this Sunday (Mar 6) to make this trip, I'll just bag it and go to Strawberry or maybe Huntington. Any takers?[/#800000]
