Tried Bear Lake one last ice trip Saturday, ice was actually 9" thick and pretty good quality, but the internal forces in the ice are intense with lots of ice quakes and occasional fractures and ridges piling up. But that's not what you wanted to hear about. We fished the marina today from 7:00 to 11:00 and had a few hits but couldn't connect at all today. Graph was blank nearly all day. My slowest day on Bear Lake all year. Ended up completely skunked for the first time since last March / April timeframe. I even kept moving to new spots and that didn't help. Oh well maybe next time. That's too bad to hear Jeff, just the day before I got 5 keeper whities about 75 yards south of you. Better luck next time!

Sorry to hear that Jeff but it happens to all of us. I'm not for sure yet but my ice fishing could be over for the season with Willard opening up.

Sorry to hear that Jeff.
I got lucky today and caught three. Biggest was a 25" Cutt. Also got a 24" Mack that peeled a lot of line before I got him in.
Fished south of Gus Rich Point with no luck. Then moved to the north a bit and finally got my Bear Lake skunk off this year. Ice was solid at 8"...but VERY noisy this a.m.

I started north and kept working south, guess I should have moved again, but with nothing showing up on my graph I was afraid they had moved out. Well I guess the skunk was going to catch up sometime. Bear Lake has a way of keeping me humble. Well I hope I got that over with so next trip will be better. Thanks for the info and checking in on us so we didn't have any ice issues. It seemed pretty good considering all the forces at work. Time to plan your routes and back up routes just in case. The ice seems strong and good, it's just the movement that you have to watchout for. Anyway thanks Mike and catch ya again. J

Hey Curt, I'm not sure, but I expect my ice season is pretty limited now as well. I need to get with you or Shaffer to learn how to do the Willard walleye crawl so I can catch those early eyes. Fun to see some open water. Still amazed at TD's cat numbers out there. Anyway thanks for the well wish. Later J

Hey Derek I'm glad you got some good ones, good you didn't get discouraged from my report. That sounded like a great trip!! Those fish are sure fun to catch and it sounds like your Mac was a blast. Sorry I couldn't make it. Well is it time to start thinking catfish yet? Wonder how it will be after a normal water level winter? Hope we get a good year this year. Later J

Yup it was a good adventure, guess I wanted to get you guys into a fun one like the rest of my BL ice trips have been. That's usually when I'll strike out the worst if I want to show someone a good trip. I think Rich is looking forward to boat trips again, he kind of likes those wipers. Have to get you up for a trip with him this spring. Later J
