Soldier Creek 3/5
#1
I fished the Soldier Creek side of strawberry with a friend and some of his kids on Saturday 3/5. there was still over a foot of solid ice. There was no slush, and most all the snow had blown off. We drove a 4-wheeler out partly on FR 90, and across the lake a couple of miles. We had no problems. Coming back around 2:00 FR 90 was a bit soft, but the lake was fine. I'm sure it could go bad at any time if the temperature decides to rise, so be careful.

We fished various spots from 20-50 FOW. Most action was on the bottom in the 25-40' range. We caught probably 10-12 fish total, it was a bit slow. There was a mix of rainbows and small to medium sized cutts. We marked an OK number of fish and had quite a few bites, but most were soft and difficult to time properly. The best luck came on a small glow ratfinkee tipped with shrimp. We also had a couple of bites on small 1.5" tubes, and one or two bites on various other lures/baits.

tks Dregs, good info on Soldier Creek...did the wind chase you off? My 'best', if you can call it that, has also been using a little cut shrimp on lite color Ratso, or small cream color tube jig...Guluk...

There wasn't much wind. It was overcast and fairly warm. We set up one tent for a kid that was cold when we arrived, but it was unoccupied most of the day.

But we all got sunburned, so be careful of that.
