Yuba
#1
Hey All-
I have never caught a northern pike before and Iv'e decided to go to Yuba to try my luck. Been fishing 40+ Years but never for pike. Was hoping someone might provide some suggestions. Not sure what baits to try and what part of the lake would be a good choice this time of year. It's all new to me. I appreciate any input. PM me if you want. Thanks.

It would be helpful to know whether you will be fishing from the shore or from a boat. I will give my $.02 assuming you are fishing from a boat.

A few years ago, I also wanted to catch my first northern pike. I gathered all of the information I could from on here and went down, near the end of April, and cast and trolled hard baits without success. I observed some guys who were having success and noticed that they were casting up near the rocky shoreline and bouncing white tube jigs back to their boat. I tied on a 3 1/2" white tube jig and proceeded to duplicate what they were doing. I ended up landing 5 in a couple hours.

Last year we went down during March and didn't get a bite, so not sure if going this early is productive or not.

We have had good luck trolling perch colored lures close to shore. One mistake people make is trolling to slow, go between 3 and 4 mph. Have your drag fairly loose for the hit. Good luck!

Two years ago I caught them using chartreuse 5 inch curly tail right on the bottom. Work the steep shorlines, and up shallow in the warm water. Let us know how you do.
