DC Tube Trip #2 3-19
#1
I took my tube up to DC for another Saturday outing. This is a "new" tube for me... bequeathed by my father who isn't into the tubing like I am.

It's an improved ride over the last one... for sure.

Plus it catches fish!

I launched at 7:15am from the shores near the Island and caught 6 Saturday... They came in waves. Three in the first 45 minutes before sun up (including the 19" Brown pictured below).

Then I missed a few nibbles for a couple hours.

And then three so fast just as my day was wrapping up they were all three in my net at the same time as I hadn't time to dismiss them before others wanted in.

The 19" Brown is a species record for me at DC. So a good day!

Two bows are joining in for Bacon Baked Trout this evening for dinner.

I was done and driving home by 11AM. Another wonderfully beautiful morning on DC.

The base recipe I found online.

I have some suggested modifications:

1) Most critical: Skin and completely de-bone the fillets. Cooking Skin-On the fish does not absorb near as much of the bacon/onion flavor as I prefer. And finding bones in the crusted fillets is a bit difficult. If you're going to all this trouble with your fish, the extra step is worth it. Particularly if you are feeding non-fish eaters like I am.

2) Sprinkle bacon bits on top with the butter/flour/cracker crust.

3) Treat the fillets with fresh ground lemon-pepper instead of plain pepper.

I too fished DC Sat am, from shore. Had four bows by 8:30 am. Released two 17 inch ladies fat with eggs, keep a smaller one and a hook jawed male. Here's a pick of my recently iced 19 inch Brown.

Nice going there !! Someone with more pull than I, needs to get TD to dig up his pic from years ago at DC where he had a couple of nice browns, some walleye, and some monster perch. It is one of the best shots of what DC offers that has ever been taken !!

[#0000FF]Sadly, that one disappeared from my files during a computer flu bug session. Best I can do is one from Yuba...in the good ol' days.

Also attaching some DC pics with guys you might recognize.

Thanks. Sounds good to me. I would like to think my wife and kids are fish eaters but the only time they don't mind bones is never. [Wink]

I'll try it out. Heck maybe I'll go get some of those DC bows to try it out with. Those and the Starvation brand are my favorite rainbows.
