#1
Saw a Facebook post today on the Jordanelle page that they just planted 15,000 Kokanee in Jordanelle this week and planning to plant 50,000 more next month.

This is great news! It'll be fun having another place to target Kokanee...... I'm just not sure how that will work dodging the immense Power Squadron on that lake during prime Kokanee time... but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

As for SMB.... don't Kokanee and SMB generally inhabit different parts of the lake? SMB the rocky shores and Kokanee the deep middle?

The thing I like about Jordanelle is the wakeless set aside on the provo river inlet arm. Makes it nice for fishing or just hanging out without the power sqaudrons buzzing by.

Mayby they could make an area in deep water near the dam wakeless! The power squadrons would still have the Northern end of the reservoir to run around on.

I think it was good planning for usage of Jordanelle that early on they looked at the different recreational users that would come to a close in body of water.

I just hope the Kokanee take and thrive in Jordanelle. It may be a better habitat than East Canyon Res., but not that different. The Kokanee plant in East Canyon didn't work out too well.

That's awesome! They will give the Browns something fatty to eat. Then we can have the best of both worlds. Big Browns and another Koke spot to fish. [Wink]

To slow down the power squadron that aren't intelligent enough to stay out of your proximity zone run planer boards, spider wire, and big treble hooks behind your boards.

Thank you DWR for the Jordy kokes!

Jordanelle Reservoir
2016-04-01
The reservoir is ice free, but there are large sheets of ice at the north end. Use caution because the ice can move. There is a seasonal wedge dock in at the PWC ramp and also one at the main ramp. A quagga-mussel decontamination station will be running and in place beginning April 9. Also, 15,000 fingerling kokanee salmon will be stocked over the next month or so. There is still self-contained camping at the main marina parking lot. A heated restroom is open. Visit a live feed of the main ramp for current weather conditions. The reservoir is currently holding at 55 percent full.

Is it a fact the Rockcliff arm is wakeless?
We had petitioned for that years ago but had not heard if it went through?

I don't think the whole Rock Cliffs arm is wakless. Just the area where the Provo river enteres. Last fall the bouys were about 1/2 mile from the river mouth.

This is correct. Also, as the lake draws down, the amount of wakeless water correspondingly shrinks, as they are slow to move the buoys out. Most of the wakeless water is also comparatively shallow and has a high number of snags.

Not bad for bass guys, but the Koke fans will need to deal with the power squadron to be in ideal koke fishing areas.

We need to get the petition moving again to make the entire Rockcliff arm wakeless.

Thank you for sharing that video. That sure qualifies to the definition of 'bucket biologist'!
As a multi-species angler, I truly thank all the participating parties to make this happen at Jordanelle, Starvation, and especially Fish Lake.

I'm no biologist by any means. This is just my understanding.

East canyon didn't work because of the water coming into east canyon was to warm For kokenee. They never had a good spawning destination.

jordanelle as a better, more suitable habitat for kokenee as far as colder water. The Provo River is colder than the creek flowing into east canyon.

So in theory the kokenee should find suitable spawning and hopefully take place and have a self sustaining population supplemented by stocking!

Food and deep open water space is similar between the two reservoirs!

I hope they end up putting lakers in too! They were favorable in the survey they had on jordanelle!

I always heard about the water flowing into East canyon was warmer and possibly causes the trout to stress and be easy targets for the anchor worms and scars you see on them, especially during the Summer months.

I really hope the Kokanee do well in Jordanelle with the Provo providing a good spawning environment.

It will be great to have another body of water with Kokes in it!
