Fun day at Willard, but what did I catch?
#1
Okay, total newbie at Willard here. We went out today and the kids had a ton of fun trolling. But I don't know what we caught. I know the second fish is a wiper, but what is the first one? Is it a bass?

Nice Crappy! I heard they get big in Willard, from the picture I see it's true!

Get 2 fillets from each fish, remove bones, remove skin...rinse lightly in water.....pre-heat frying pan, with about 1/8 " cooking oil....I like a flour/egg/milk batter...1 egg, try about 1 tbls flour, little milk added little at a time so it's all a bit runny, not thick...you could use beer instead of milk for a 'beer batter'...and my trick is to add 1/4 tsp baking powder to 'lighten' the batter mix... the batter should then be thick enough to stick to your fillets, but not so thick that you lose your fish! Dip bigger fillets first, coating completely, and about 3 mins on each side...smaller crappie fillets dipped and coated and about 2 mins each side.....little tartar sauce, and you got a meal for a king and queen...Guluk...

I have found that I prefer crappie in Tubedude's "Pig Out Perch Chowder". You can find it on the forums here, among other recipes.

Try searching for this in google:

pig out perch chowder

("pig out perch chowder" should be on the same line as the line above)

[#0000FF]Here are a couple of ideas.

Congrats on a good outing. Should only get better in the next few weeks.

We tried the planko fried fish tonight and turned them into tacos. They were better than the fresh fish tacos we had in Ensenada after a day of deed sea fishing. Thanks for sharing these recipes. Tomorrow we are trying the pig out chowder. Here is a picture.

Am I the only one wondering why you would keep a fish when you don't even know anything about the regs on said fish? Or what it even is? Download the DNR app on your phone. Everything at your fingertips.
