Red Fleet got its walleyes
#1
750,000 sterile walleye fry went into Red Fleet yesterday, Wednesday, April 6. A big day for Red Fleet and huge day for Utah as this was the first 100% sterile population Utah DWR has been successful in producing! I believe it was the fourth and fifth batches that were successful. Great job DWR! The other batches of less than 100% sterile fry will be planted in other waters. These fry are expected to be about 12" by next spring of 2017 so all you walleye nuts may have a new playground to try out.

The crappie spawning population is currently being obtained and is expected to be transplanted in the next few days. I'm very excited to see how the Fleet does with these new species over the next few years. Lots of brand new angling opportunities in the Basin!

So Far Red fleet has been planted with catchable cutthroat, catchable rainbow, 6" wiper, yellow perch (1,000), sterile walleye and fathead minnows. Black crappie and mountain whitefish this spring will complete the species package for the time being. Tiger trout will be planted when stocks become available.

This is great news. Glad to see a much greater interest in the warm water species.

Very nice. When the fish take hold and it is viable, I will start making trips out that way.
