Warm water cats
#1
Anyone know or think the cats have started to move into the warmer shallow water of lakes that may be 10 or 15 feet deep or deeper.

I've been catching them in 2 FOW. However, last night only got 1 small one and 3 bullheads. But I didn't start till after 8 and the bite was over by 9:00 and I waited till 10:30 hoping for a scoring fish but nothing showed. So if I would have fished from 5:00-9:00 it would have been better in the shallows. I think they move to deeper water as the cool of the night comes in. Mornings have been slow for me as well in that spot. So in answer to your question, yes but it's a time of day thing. Later J

What Jeff said is right...timing is everything.

I also think that bodies of water may differ in techniques/results. For example, the way you fish Cutler Marsh may differ than Utah Lake.

I fished benson Marina for 3 hours yesterday (Friday) from 1-4 while the wife shopped in logan and my daughter and I caught 6 channel cats and about 8-9 bullheads. We caught them out of about 3-6 feet of water from shore, but none out of the deep scour hole that we were fishing next to, so yeah, they are coming from deep to shallow when it's warm. The bite was pretty consistent and the channel cats we caught were from 12"- 25 1/2".

It figures that I didn't think to bring my BFT contest logo so that I could score it, but oh well, I'll get more very soon. It's these non-planned fishing trips that seem to offer me the best surprises!

Mike! Good job!! Are you ready for this next weekend? (if that works for you)

I just got back from Benson and what you say is right...the Catfish Bite is on! I'll post some of the contest worthy pics on the contest board later.
