Yuba
#1
I was wondering if the pike fishing gets better as the water warms up. I have been down there 3 times first trip caught a 28" pike on an anchovie under a bobber, last two trips got 5 carp and no pike. I fish from the shore and have been fishing painted rock area. I don't know the reservoir very well. That is the only place I have fished on yuba. Thanks for your input.[Smile]

[#0000FF]Not sure just how "closed" the Oasis area is. But there are a lot of pike caught from shore all along the shoreline from the point by the campground all the way to the bridge. Some guys do well by soaking minnows or anchovies on the bottom...moving them once in a while. Others float them under a bobber not far from shore. There are places along there that drop off into deeper water pretty quickly.

If nothing else, park on the road to the north of the bridge and walk down from there. Sometimes fishing right off the rocks just before the bridge can be good.

If it is not currently posted against parking, you can park on the far south side of the dam and hike up over the rock bluffs...and fish where the rocks go down into the water. Lots of fish caught right where there is the transition zone from rocks to sandy bottom...where it is labelled "Bluffs" on the attached map.

The water temps should be getting into the range where a lot of the pike will be setting up housekeeping in the shallower and brushier areas...where you can find them. After that they will move back out into the main lake and be all around the lake. There is really not much structure so the pike set up around points and breaklines, anywhere they can have some "edge" and set up an ambush for something edible to swim by.

Everything changes with the rise and fall of the water level. It takes some experience over quite a few trips...over several years...with different water conditions...before you really get a feel for it. And even then you can smell skunk when you think you got it covered.

I did a quick recon trip Friday and water temp was 49.5 degrees so once it gets in the 50s constantly the fishing will pick up. Shore fishing should pick up once the water Temps pickup.
