UL Newsletter for April
#1
[#0000FF]Just got my email newsletter from the Utah Lake Commission...for Utah Lake, April 2016.

Had to do some copy and paste and conversion to a PDF file so I could post it here.

Hey TD, you done any poking around on the old puddle recently? I fished around Lindon a little this last weekend and picked up a couple white bass, a couple mudders and one small cat. She's been slow for me so far.

Also Where's the water? Still doesn't seem like it's come up much, if at all.

[#0000FF]Through April and into the first of May I hit Willard for crappies, early wipers and walleyes. But once the post spawn walleye start moving in Utah Lake...and the cats start getting active...after the first of May...I will be spending more time down there. And Lindon is usually a good spot. But it will likely not be as good as most years if we don't get more water.

Runoff is just starting. But they fill Deer Creek first and then Jordanelle. No big releases into Utah Lake until the June Sucker spawn. And they are already releasing water from Utah Lake for the downstream water users.

Still reason to hope that UL gets a lot more water. But after several years of drought much of the runoff is being sucked up by still dry conditions in the mountains. We need some continued wet weather combined with more runoff.

Cross your fingers...cross your eyes...cross your legs. Cross anything crossable and hope for the best.

I drive by the spfork river every day, they have sucked almost all the water out, its running about 25%of what it was a week ago, last year the lake seemed to go down before the run off started to level it out, I hope there is enough water up there to put some water in it so we can get boats on it this fall.

[#0000FF]I don't pretend to know even a fraction of all the claims upon the water coming into Utah Lake. But I suspect that with previous years' shortages there are plenty of places for it to go...and lots of greedy water users trying to get their shares...and more.

Based upon my records of past years I am optimistic that there will be some good inflows in May and June. Probably not enough to bring the lake up to full pool this year but likely way ahead of last year.

Looks like the storm today may have helped a little bit. Fresh snow on the mountain.
