Uinta brookies with sores
#1
My son and I hiked into a small natural lake Friday up in the Uintas. We had a great day catching nice big brookies. There were also a lot of spawning greyling in the lake that had no intrest in taking anything we offered. I caught several nice sized brookies that had sores on top of their heads. The spots were white about one inch in diameter and only on their heads. Would these spots be from where they rubbed their heads on the ice or from last fall's spawn? I have never seen spots like this in this lake before. I should have taken a picture but didn't have a camera. Has anyone else seen spots like this in the spring ?

Thanks for posting your report. I have no clue what those spots could be but could they be from spawning?

Could they have been some kind of parasite? I know some waters get some kind of scale worm.

That's very interesting because I've fish at least 150 lakes on the kamas side and haven't ever seen them on brook trouts.

Maybe the mosquito's are smart and started buying some scuba gear to suck some fish blood.
