My grandpa, Hazen Madsen, who I would give anything to take fishing.
He and my dad gave me an incredible fishing youth. This is one of his trout out of the good ol' Deer Creek. Man, I miss my grandpa. [signature]

my in-laws are not fishermen. They don't know what fishing is.
My wife's grandpa thinks fishing is just a huge waste of time - time that could be spend cutting fence posts, and building fence lines. I don't get it. They are also huge gun collectors. There have been numerous guns passed from my wife's grandpa(s) to her brothers. Unfortunately, neither my wife or myself has been the recipient of any firearms. One day, her grandpa mentioned this old "fishing pole" out in the shed. I nearly fell off my chair! Why on earth would he have a fishing pole out in his shed?? Sure enough, I found the pole: a fly rod in a rod sock leaning against a wall!! Someone had given grandpa the rod when he was young. It actually had some scales on the handle -- proof that he had actually used the rod and caught fish at some point in his past! The rod is of very little monetary value. However, it no longer is hidden away in a tack shed collecting dust. I placed one of my dad's old automtic fly reels on it. It now resides on display in my kitchen where everyone can see it. ![]() ![]() Who needs a gun when you can have a fly rod?! [signature]

Wanted to post to this when I first saw it, but couldn't find the photo I wanted to post. Now I found it. My oldest son and I in Show Low Arizona in 1979. He was not quite 6 years old, and the first time he had ever caught fish. Was using one of those old folding pocket fisherman that the reel didn't work very well. Some of the Trout he caught he had to hand over hand the line in when the reel wouldn't take up correctly. He's been a hooked fisherman ever since [
