Headed up to Grandaddy Basin tomorrow for a few days with my brother. Being new to Utah, this will be my first trip to the Uintas and I am excited. I spent a ton of time in the Absoroka Beartooth Widerness in Montana, and it was all high alpine fishing. Love that kind of country.
We are expecting hordes of people there this weekend, so we plan to bushwhack over to Fern Lake and may even take a day trip to Docs Lake. Tackle includes a variety of small gold, brass, black, and silver lures (Jakes, Panther Martin, Mepps, Thomas Cyclone) and several flies along with some nymphs. I also have a few marabou jigs in.
If any of you have experience at Fern or Docs you would like to share, I am all ears. I'll report on the trip once we return.

It has been years since I hiked in up there - and those days are behind me now.
Your lure selection seems fine, especially the marabou jigs (black).
My reply is to caution you about weather. The monsoon is upon us, and that means thunderstorms and lightning up there. Be triply aware of fires - and pack something warm.

I took the scouts up that way last year at about this same time of year. it has been my experience with the grandaddys that as soon as you leave grandaddy lake, you also leave 95% of the crowd. If you go one lake past in any direction you will loose just about the other 5%. I will echo the warning on the weather. During the 4 days we were up there we saw everything from sunny and 75 to 4" of snow and dime sized hail. it was a crazy week. Let us know how you do

Make sure you take plenty of pictures, the elk are getting more active up there and watch for bears.

1/16 ounce marabous @ Fern will get you some bigger than average Uinta brook trout. A float tube or something to get you out on the lake will be a huge bonus anywhere up there. Kind of tough to pack all the gear though.[reply][/reply]

I appreciate all of the advice and recommendations. We will hit the trail about 2 or 3. I'll report back in a few days, hopefully with pictures.
