Still very slow... Very slow. I keep telling myself I'm going to try somewhere else until it picks back up but those wipers have me hooked. I think after today I'm going to give it a rest for a few weeks.

It's slow because of the abundant shad, This time of year is the time to boil fish and they can be all day long at times, watch for the birds they will show you where the fish are. then get in there and do some casting. [fishon]
I'm sure by now the boils are in full swing in the morning and evenings, It's gotten really quite around here on willard and that is a sign that they are in full swing. LOL! FNF[cool] [signature]

Not so far my friend, we got out there yesterday morning, we were the first boat on the water and saw ZERO, ZIP, as far as boils go and we covered the West, to the East side. Lots and lots of shad deep but nothing near the surface. That could be because of that little cold front that came through. Water temp was down from 78* to 72*, to start off the day, so maybe later in the evening they came up but very few birds were diving. We did catch fish trolling deep with lead core line but it was a tough 7 hrs on the lake.

Just got back from Willard. Trolled cranks for 4 hours, only fish caught was a 10" crappie near the feed lot. Marked a few fish in freeway bay, but no takers. The water is not very clear and has a green tint. Most of the birds were just floating around, not much activity.

Are water levels still up, island exposed yet? I want to find the new rock reef. And may be i'll hit it Saturday morning, take my chances with the rude squad

Iv notices it has come down the past two weeks. Still plenty of water and nothing exposed that I know of.

I'm thinking about trying a three way rig with a small jerk bait, or floating rapala with a weight on the bottom . Lots of options.

Just got back from Willard and the fishing was on fire tonight for about an hour right before the sun had set. Pulled in 5 good channels before the bugs drove me out. It's been a week since I've been able to slay them wipers.

Fished it last nite for 2 hours,,used everything in the box,,only 1 very small wiper,,water was a little stained and no boils.

I was at strawberry last weekend with a large group and only one person got anything. It was insanely slow. However none of us were on a boat so that may make a huge difference. We did end up catching tons and tons of crawdads though. It made for an awesome dinner

I got a report from my neighbor last night that he lost count of the number of Wiper he caught, he sent me a pick of him holding two rods each with a wiper on it. I took him out a while ago and showed him how to fish mussels and this was the first time he went back on his own and killed them. In my experience over the last two years if the wipers are not cooperating when trolling, anchor up toss out some mussels and wait, with in an hour it will be fish on, catching double digits with doubles being very common.

Went today, caught two, almost 4 but one broke me off and couldn't hook the other. Bout an hour or so between bites

Hey, great pic of the perch on ice...not much finer than that...am looking forward to perch at Starvy and hopefully Mantua this Winter, or anywhere else I can find 'em...
Yeah, we've been trolling at Strawberry, mostly for the Kokes and once in awhile a cutt or rainbow, but targeting the Kokes...this has been my first season trolling my boat there, and I'm liking it more and more, but I also love the ice fishing there... [signature] |
