Election day monster
#1
We had voted early and decided to fish on this beautiful fall election day. We arrived at Yuba to blue skies and flat water. Although the day only produced 2 fish, one was a giant.
42 inches weighing 19.75 pounds on a certified scale.

Fishing is always tough on Yuba, but its nice to know that a few trophy fish still exist there. Much closer than Joes Valley from Utah County although not nearly as many trophy fish. Incidentally the water level is coming up.
Surface water temp was 50 degrees when we arrived and 58 degrees in the shallows when we departed.

Great catch, no scars and nice and fat. Was that beauty in the 58 degree water, or down deep? Did you launch at oasis, state Park by the dam?
It's been three years sense I caught a good sized pike at yuba. That's a productive day to me. Thanks

We launched at Oasis. The courtesy dock has been removed and you must launch on the North side of the ramp. (deeper water and more length to the concrete)
The fish was in the shallows in about 5 to 6 feet of water.

Wrongway was using a Rick Klune suspending lure. The fight lasted about 15 minutes and the fish is still swimming in the reservoir. I had forgotten the net and it was a trick getting it into the boat to be measured and weighed.
The week before we had lost a really big one and like many anglers, if we can catch one good fish in a day of casting....It's all worth it.
