Since I am stuck in Cache Valley for the foreseeable future I am curious where the best etting trout would be located. Bear Lake was good fishing last time I went, but the fish were terrible eating. That's the lowest spot on my list. Porcupine would be awesome if you could get a decent sized boat in there for more than a couple months since I prefer the kokes. The trout have been okay, but not the beautiful orange color I am used to. Hyrum seems okay, but the fish are quite small for that put-and-take fishery. What about the Idaho side? I have not ventured that way yet but hear you can't get a boat on some of those puddles. Just wanna get into some good eating trout without having to drive 3.5 hours one way. Is there any hope out there?

I fished the Pig in the Fall a couple of years back and was surprised by the number of kokes I saw near the back launch, they were not huge but they were good eating. Since they did that work on the first launch, its easier to get a boat in and out but there is also that middle launch, that only comes out of the water when the lake is low. I've had no problem launching my boat there in the Fall but how big of boat are you talking about?

Guess I don't keep and eat that many fish, but those I do eat have always seemed pretty good flavored, unless it was from the summer warm water... I have found that I keep the females and chuck the males back during ice season... Can't get the scales off the males.. Most of the fish I keep are from Hyrum and we usually get some in the 14-17" range if we keep them... They are there, just have to fish a little longer to get the bigger fish... Bear Lake fish do have a lighter color to their meat, but I really haven't noticed a problem with their flavor, but I do smoke most of the fish I keep so that usually makes everything taste better.. Plus I really haven't kept many from there... But I do love the white fish from Bear Lake... The Idaho lakes have some nicer sized trout, but I'm like you not knowing where I can take a boat or use one anymore, so I haven't been going up anymore, it's not worth the extra expense and hassles to me... I guess you can try walleye, wiper and crappie if you want a good eating fish... wow did I really say that... what has happened to me... Much more mild flavor than trout if you haven't tried them... Good luck with your quest... ... prettiest meat in a fish that I've seen is from Flaming Gorge rainbows that have been eating those crawdads... Next was Henry's and Chesterfield Reservoir in Idaho... Maybe that's where you should try, Chesterfield.. limit was only 2 fish last time I was there, but they are nice fish up there.. and it's only an hour or so north... Later J

I did try willard this year and got some walleye. Very good eating but from the reports they and wiper (yet to be caught) have really slowed down.
At the gorge the rainbows come closer to the shore during the winter months and man are they good eating. Not much difference from them and the kokes.
