Is any good ice forming at the gorge yet, And how is the burbot fishing in sheep creek bay once ice forms? We are planning on a trip this winter, but a couple of us going are sporting artificial knees and need easy access to the ice. Not to familiar with the best spots for burbot ( and easy
old man access points)

No ice, and you want to be way up north for Burbot. Buckboard area, and north of there. That's also where the first ice will form.

The forecast looks promising for ice formation this coming week with the cold weather coming in. Highs in the teens and lows below zero look beautiful to my eyes.

Ignore the photo, there are no lota lota in flaming gorge.
Firehole is currently at 4-6" inches of ice.

Firehole is the easiest area to access on the Rock Springs side it is paved all of the way to the marina. The wind seems to be calmer at Firehole, which makes for a more enjoyable experience in my opinion. Firehole will stay frozen until April and sometimes the ice can get up to 3 ft thick.
After the marina/campground at Firehole there is a dirt road that takes you along the side of the lake and it is not maintained during the winter, but a 4x4 truck should get you where you want to be should you choose that side.
Buckboard is easiest area to access on the Green River side it is paved a majority of the way. Buckboard sometimes does not freeze and usually isn't frozen for very long throughout the season.
Lost Dog (GR side) is a dirt road and I would recommend 4 wheel drive on a warm day (mud) and on a snowy day (snow), but other than that you can take a 2WD car to the beach. Lost Dog always makes me uneasy in the early ice periods. Later in the year after it has good ice, I like to fish the cliffs for macs.
Firehole is frozen with 4-6" and Lost Dog (Confluence) may have a thin layer of ice and I wouldn't trust it until it has 6" of ice at least.
Another option for Burbot would be Fontenelle. They tagged some massive burbot their this year for the tournaments and the roads are pretty easy getting to the lake.

It was -17 this morning, so the ice will be plenty thick this weekend.

Thanks for the fantastic info. I have not been up to Fontenelle since I was a little kid. I may have to put that on the ice fishing bucket list, for a long weekend.
