Gorge trout limit question
#1
I was trying to find out if a youth under 12 can have a full limit on FG on the WY side like they can in Utah? WY says a youth under 12 can fish without a licenses as long as they are with an adult with a licenses and there fish counts towards the adults limit.
With it being a shared water by both states which reg do you go with?

To the best of my knowledge, Wyoming regulations apply on that side of the lake. According to the regulations, non-resident youth creel limits are combined with the adult.

I don't have young children anymore, but I'd be interested to find out if you learn otherwise.

I had to call in sick so I could go to Lake Powell!

You can buy your children a reciprocating stamp for their UT license and they can then keep a limit while fishing the WY side of the Gorge. I have had to press the issue with the WY license vendors but have done it for years.

[#800000]If you fish the WY side of the Gorge, you MUST do so IAW the WY Regs. The ONLY thing the 2 states share on the Gorge is the reciprocity stamp and a couple of fish limit restrictions. Creel limits are state specific and must be observed within each states boundary. Your BEST course of action would be to call the WY Game & Fish offices in Cheyenne and ask them for the 100% correct answer.[/#800000]

My son is 10 so he doesn't require a licence in either state. I will call WY Game and Fish to clarify, better to be safe than sorry. Thanks guys!

You can and will be able to buy a 10 year old a UT fishing license you may have to press the issue but they will sell it to you and then purchase a WY Gorge reciprocating license.

I agree with calling but this is my personal experience.

I would imagine the $5 12-13 year old license price would hold valid for a 10 year old as well, and then be able to purchase a $10 wyoming reciprocal stamp for your boy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I would do if I were in your shoes. Good luck and let us know how you do!
