Went to porcupine today. Got there about six thirty and on the ice by 645. Road to the top of the damn is a little icy but it's been plowed. Fished the south side of the dam with no fish but saw some kokes on the finder but couldn't get them to commit. Moved to the east to the cliffs by the inlet and managed four trout. Three browns and one splake. Browns were 24", 18", 18", and the splake was 14" left the lake at about six. Ice thickness was 8" by the dam and a foot by the cliffs. Will post pictures when I can get to a computer can't seem to figure how to upload them from a phone haha

Were you able to drive to the inlet area or do you have a snow machine? Thanks for the report. Sounds like that 24" brown was a good fish, look forward to seeing that pic.

Nice brown, sure is funny they are always so lean, seems you rarely see a fat brown until they get over 25" or so. We caught a good one there some years back that was 27" and it had some girth on it. Did you walk all the way to the back on foot?

Not all the way to the inlet but to the big group of cliffs up that direction after the first cove on the south side.

Thats still a long walk, especially if the snow is deep. Speaking of deep, getting up there now will likely be impossible, without a snow cat or snow mobile[crazy], I think you went at the right time.

Ya we went Saturday and didn't have any issues. Snow on top of the ice was probably two inches when we got there and when we left was about four so made for a long haul to get back to the truck. I'm hoping to be able to go this weekend but may be tough with all the snow. Although someone had plowed the road recently cause it was all cleared out when we went Friday so maybe someone will do it again

Two of my sons braved the conditions today. To road has been kept clear to the base of the dam and were okay this morning. They drove to the top of the dam as well, it hadn't been plowed. With the new snow on the road from the base to the top of the dam, they did fine getting up there and turning around. The big issue today was the edges of the lake. If you go before we get some colder weather you will need a plank! My oldest son went through both getting on and off the ice, which totally mess up their day of fishing.[crazy] Needles to say they didn't stay long enough to do much fishing. They estimated you will need at least a 10' plank to get safely on the ice.

If it was 10' this morning with all that new storm through the day it might get hard to reach the ice with a plank. Might be time for the extension ladder. Thanks for the report and warning. I hate going through the edge ice up there it gets too deep too fast. Sorry they didn't get to fish. Later J
