Take the time to read back thru some of the posts. Lots of info. It's pretty basic for the most part. If you have a flasher it makes a huge difference. Usually 30 to 40 feet of water. Late evening, early morning, and night time tend to be the best. Small jigs tipped with mealee worms, wax worms, night crawler, gulp minnow chunks. Usually just off the bottom, but often, especially at night they start stacking. Very light biters, so indicators or extra ultra light rods are a must. I use ultra light rod and a wire tipped indicator. I am a long way from being close to a great crappie fisherman, but even I can catch them when they're biting. People fishing around you are usually more than willing to share their knowledge and techniques. Just let them know you are a new comer, and would appreciate any help and advise. Good Luck!

I fished it Jan 21, catfish77 and I were able to pull in five crappie at noon. One of the keys to catching them is a very soft noodle rod. The bites were really light, when the rod drops the fish is taking, when it come up its spitting it out. The other thing that is key is to have a braided ice line. The one has very little memory and straightens out so there is not any slack. When fish hit a line with memory the line just untwistes and you never see the hit. I use micro crystal ice line, and it has worked well. Crappie can also see well use floro leader too. Be quick on light movements and often you will get a second chance. Good luck crappie are one of the funniest and most challenging fish for me.

Head out to browning point, go towards the port ramp and set up straight out in front of the building on the point with the green trim on the roof. 49.5 fow work in or out from there till you find the school. We got lucky Sunday afternoon/evening and every hole we drilled had fish on them. We only stayed for 1.5 hrs and everyone caught fish 4 kids and two adults. Walk out is great with all the hard pack and if you take a shovel you can get right down on the ice. I hole hopped a bunch and didn't use my finder but just dropped down to the bottom and two cranks up and was icing fish so it is doable without eectronics. Use glow grub of any kind and a buck shot spoon with waxies. Ice was very thick edges were no problem, now is the time to get on them. Good luck and tight lines.

We were down there last night. The fish were a little stubborn for us, but we ended up with 13, before leaving. One thing we all forgot to mention. If you plan on fishing after dark, some kind of shelter is almost a must. Temps have been dropping below zero and it becomes very difficult to function in those conditions. By the way, a head lamp is almost a must also. It was darker than the inside of a polar bear last night, when we left.
