Fish Lake Report for 02/12/17
#1
Well finally fished Fish Lake for the first time ever. Not a good day for me. First I got up later than I wanted. Left SLC at 0400 rather than 0300. Made it to Aurora Utah and my trailer tire blew out. This was about 0630, pulled off to the side of the road and replaced tire. That took an hour. Seemed to me that the lug nuts were welded on or something. Got to the lake at 0830ish. Ice was fine. 1/2 inch of snow over solid 10" ice. I went to the first parking place I came to. Offloaded everything all the while thinking I hope I don't have a blow out on my way home. Went straight out from where I parked and a little to the right in about 30' feet of water. Started up the Mako auger and damned if it isn't broken. Motor works but auger slips and doesn't spin. Took forever to drill 1 hole. Fished till about 1500. Drilled a couple of holes and probably pissed off other fishermen/women cause my auger took so long to drill through. Ended up catching 8 little rainbows, 4 little splake ( I think never seen one before) and about 50 little perch. Biggest one was about 10".

Man those trips like that are rough. But hey, you caught fish right? Sorry it was such a pain. Sounds like the ice was good still. Thanks for posting.

I was out there 2 weeks ago and this is how trip went. Drove my snowmobile a little to fast and hit some well covered up holes from the wind drift from previous holes and my sled flipped upside down luckily nothing broke, grabbed my propane auger blade cover wrong to the point I cut my thumb, went back to my car to get bandage then went to fast, blew out the belt, had to change it while bleeding, and then I finally got back to fishing about 2-3 hours of missing action in the end.

At least I learned my lesson to never go from 20-80 mpg on the ice with many holes popped everywhere to the point a little bump and going that fast will snap a belt [laugh].

If I was one of those people watching you have trouble I would of came over and popped a few holes for you. I've done it a few times for people who broke they're auger or forgot it and people tried to find some open holes.

Let's hope both of our trip next time runs smoother [Wink]
