Started fishing around 930 in the morning temperature was 28° and the edges were still solid. Only about an inch of snow on top of the ice and the test whole revealed 14 inches of ice. We had to keep moving to find the active fish and most of them were caught in 45 to 47 feet of water, but they were suspended 4-12 feet off the bottom. We caught 18 Crappie and 2 perch between the two of us in the five hours that we were there. I left around 230 and the temperature when I was leaving was 33° and the slush monster was beginning to show itself. A few inches of slush wasn't too bad, but a lot of the old holes were only freezing over an inch or so. Maybe this cold front will keep the ice in good shape for another week or two! I'd still like a few more weeks on the hard deck before putting up the short rods.

Thanks for the report, Jason. No skunk stank so even in this bad weather you still faired rather well IMO - nice job! I agree hopefully the cold weather will help the ice conditions for a little while longer anyway...

Thanks! I planned on a Friday trip but forgot I was helping with a scout winter camp Friday night. 3 degrees in Evanston and we're sleeping outside over in Lyman Wy. area. Might as well be ice fishing in those kind of conditions! With the cold temps it should still be good come Monday or Tuesday! (If I live through the weekend)
